The Evergreen Songs initiative presents: ‘Our Culture Heroes’, curated by Hilit Sheffer and Bini Sarid, generating unorthodox connections between mythological texts with animators young and old, who offer their personal interpretation of their text of choice. The unique combination of animators withover two decades of professional activity with others who have recently taken up this profession underlinesgenerational differences of attitudes and understanding of the texts. The songs chosen by the animators also provide us with a peek into the ever-changing content and context that each generation assigns to a given text.
Of the song selection animated for this exhibition, one will be given an extra dimension thanks to Augmented Reality technology. This blend of artistic disciplines further emphasizes the relationship between old and new, breathing new life and perspective into the composition.

Our cultural world lay dormant for a year and a half, suffering one blow after another. As part of the Evergreen Songs initiative we have partnered with Rena’s House hotel to take up the gauntlet and relaunch our activity, while paying homage to artists who have created the soundtrack of our lives. As our curators Hilit Sheffer and Bini Sarid put it: “We invite you to join our effort to reaffirm the significance of these texts, which have inspired over three generations of Israelis. Our journey through the history of these compositions will add a new visualperspective, enabling you literally to see these timeless classics.
The animators participating in the exhibition include, Gabriel Baruch, Daniel Goldstein, Guy Harlap, Omer Hoffman, Hilit Sheffer, Tsachi Ferber, Ovadia Benishu, Noa Alon, Aviel Basil, Asaf Hanuka, Maor Aharon, Orit Bergman, Emanuel Zilbersnir, Yael Velovsky, Batya Kulton and Noa Peled.
The Evergreen Song initiative aspires to honor both Israeli cultural heroes and Israeli music. The project, initiated by Aroma Music, works to preserve as well as further develop Israeli culture – thereby making it accessible to new audiences, young and old.
The first project by the Evergreen Song initiativewas ‘Ya’ale VeYavo’, a music project based on the works of Yoram Tahar-Lev. See https://digistage.to/YalaVYaboPartA
Rena’s House was built in 1954 by David Zimand in honor of his beloved wife Rena. The House was originally built for the textile industry that flourished at the time in Tel Aviv and housed small textile factories, designers and merchants. As the textile industry changed, so did Rena’s House, until in 2016 David and Rena’s family decided to instill new life into the building. The old textile factories were transformed into uniquely designed short-term apartments. The former shops became artists’ studios. A restaurant and live music venue were opened. The vision inspiring the change was to create a rich urban climate that will allow locals and tourists alike to meet and interact, a unique space that fosters local creativity and art, pays tribute to the people of Tel-Aviv and offers guests the opportunity to experience the great city of Tel-Aviv at its finest.
The exhibition will include ‘Gallery talks’ with the composers and animators, discussing the story behind the sights and sounds (Dates to be published at a later time).
Grand opening – November 18′ at 19:00
The exhibition will be on display from November 18 to November 27
At ‘Rena’s House’ hotel, Simtat Bet-HaBad 3, Tel Aviv.
