🔻ROCKETS from HEZBOLLAH – LEBANON to Arab al-Aramsha.
▪️OCT. 7 ANALYSIS.. (the Atlantic)
.. a strategic failure, as Israel deployed the majority of its ready forces to the West Bank. When warning finally did come, at 3 a.m. on October 7, no decision was made to take even the modest alert measures—placing attack helicopters on runway alert, making a wake-up call to kibbutz security officers, heightening the readiness of a few quick-reaction units—that might have diminished the disaster.
.. an operational failure, as Hamas storm troops—not terrorists merely, because that makes them sound like a gang, but rather a well-trained and disciplined army committed to terror—overran Israel’s major local headquarters in Re’im. The divisional headquarters and its two subordinate brigade headquarters, the top of the command system that should have responded to the attack, were forced to fight for their lives, leaving immediate responses uncoordinated.
.. a tactical failure, as thousands of volunteers streamed to the fight, but in uncoordinated packets, which achieved some successes but also suffered terrible losses. Sayeret Matkal, the Israeli equivalent of the U.S. Army’s Delta Force, lost more soldiers in one day than it had in the previous 30 years.

1. Israel had no intelligence in the Gaza Strip, no idea about what was happening there. Total opacity, especially in the field of tunnels, cyber, communication and the like!
2. On October 7, Hamas took over 27 towns and 4 IDF bases. 300 soldiers were killed 1100 civilians. There was no military response, complete blindness, the border and the IDF bases completely at the mercy of Hamas, not a patrol and not even a single soldier protecting the border.
3. At 16:00 Hamas was supposed to reach 12 cities in Israel, including breaking into the reactor and base in Dimona.
4. In the first invasion, 3200 Hamas invaded Israel and another 5000 were preparing to enter. The IDF was in hibernation, completely neutralized, its leaders were in holiday mode, ignoring endless alerts including midnight alerts.
5. The Prime Minister of Israel and the Minister of Defense did not respond to these alerts, did not alert the military command, neither Gallant nor Netanyahu himself. (We’ve also heard reverse reports, that the alerts were never delivered to the PM or DM.)
6. US President Biden was woken up from his sleep and the White House was confused. Calls to Israel: what the hell is going on with you?
7. The White House starting working on the threat: what will happen if Israel collapses and countries such as Iran or Hezbollah join the fighting?
8. In addition, there was a clear opinion that in the Israeli government there are ministers who are not informed and have no idea what is happening on the ground, and the only ones who understand something are Galant, Bibi, Dichter, Shikli, but they are denied up-to-date real time info.
9. Reservists took personal initiative and went to the battlefield. The reserve mobilization system during the emergency in Israel did not function at all. There was no immediate activation, the IDF was in an incomprehensible hibernation. (Reserve calls starting going out around 2pm Israel time if I remember correctly – more people responding to “friend calls friend” and WhatsApp messages than the system.)
10. On the entire border in the Gaza Strip there were 10 obsolete tanks and few soldiers. The Air Force was silent. To illustrate, at the border of Poland or the border of Germany or the border of Hungary, quiet and calm borders, there were many more security and military personnel than were on at the border with the Gaza Strip.
