Packages delivered directly to your window, rooftop landings, and drone routes in the air? The National Drone Initiative has made Israel a leader in smart air transportation. Two Israeli startups – High Lander and Cando Drones – are proving that with vision, technological capabilities, and regulatory flexibility, it is possible to fly forward.
Drones that transport medical equipment between hospitals, autonomous control systems that manage the skies, coordination between government ministries and competing companies – all of this is already happening, not in the near or distant future, but here and now.
The National Smart Air Transportation Initiative, an initiative of the Innovation Authority and partner organizations, has become an arena for experimentation on a scale unseen in the world. Within a few years, approximately 30,000 test flights have been achieved – a scale that similar organizations in Europe are only striving to reach. And unlike classic pilots, this is an ecosystem pilot that is open to the entire industry and invites real cooperation between competing companies, regulatory bodies, security and civilian entities. The vision: accessible, safe and autonomous skies, for uses such as the transfer of medical equipment, security, logistics and urban services.
